Applications of Sodium Allyl Sulfonate (SAS) in the Textile Industry

1. Third functional monomer for acrylic fiber production (Core Application)

SAS is the classic third monomer for polyacrylonitrile (PAN) acrylic fiber copolymerization.

  • Covalently graft sulfonate anionic groups to create permanent binding sites for cationic dyes, greatly enhancing color depth, uniform dyeing and color fastness.
  • Loosen tight fiber crystal structure, accelerate dye penetration, reduce barreling and floating color defects.
  • Endow acrylic fiber permanent antistatic performance, lower filament breakage during spinning and avoid fabric static sticking during weaving.
  • Suppress fiber yellowing under high-temperature spinning and heat setting, maintain bright fabric shade.Applied products: Wool-like staple fiber, bulky acrylic yarn, blanket fiber, carpet fiber, sweater knitting yarn, plush toy fabric.

2. Pigment printing binder functional comonomer

SAS copolymerizes with acrylic monomers to synthesize water-based printing binders for textile pigment printing.

  • Provide stable electrostatic repulsion to disperse organic/inorganic color pigments, prevent pigment agglomeration and color floating.
  • Improve binder latex storage stability, freeze-thaw resistance and hard water tolerance.
  • No migrating free surfactants after film formation, boosting fabric washing fastness and hand feel without hardening.

3. Waterborne textile color paste dispersant resin monomer

Used to prepare acrylic dispersant resins for textile mill base:

  • Sulfonate groups strengthen pigment wetting during sand milling, shorten grinding time and support high pigment loading.
  • Stabilize color paste long-term storage, no sedimentation or stratification under high-temperature workshop conditions.

4. Textile antistatic finishing polymer monomer

Copolymerize SAS to synthesize permanent antistatic finishing agents for synthetic fabrics (polyester, acrylic).

  • Persistent hydrophilic anionic channels reduce surface resistance, eliminate static electricity without frequent re-finishing.
  • Good compatibility with softeners and finishing auxiliaries, no adverse impact on fabric softness or color.

5. Sizing agent auxiliary monomer

Modified polyacrylate textile sizing agent incorporated with SAS:

  • Improve sizing liquid water solubility, permeability and stability under hard water.
  • Enhance adhesion between sizing film and synthetic fiber filaments, reduce yarn hairiness and breakage during weaving.
  • Easy desizing after weaving, no residual film blocking dyeing.

6. Waste gas treatment auxiliary for textile printing & dyeing

SAS-based sulfonate polymers act as scale dispersants for circulating cooling water and dyeing wastewater recycling systems, inhibiting calcium/magnesium salt scale and sludge deposition in dyeing equipment.
